The owners of this contemporary family home on Bowen Island in BC, approached Tamlin a few years ago with an idea of moving to the island to raise their family. The proximity of Bowen Island to the mainland (20 minutes by ferry) allows for easy access to the City of Vancouver while at the same time living outside of the hustle and bustle of the big city and surrounding suburbs.
The owners had seen one of our pre-fabricated Tamlin homes being built on Bowen Island and fell in love with the west coast contemporary style. Our Discovery Ridge home was their favourite, but because of the topography of their lot and the views they wanted to capture they decided on a two storey version of this plan with the bedrooms on the lower level.
Because Tamlin was working on a lock-up package for another client on Bowen Island we were able to send our senior site superintendent to walk the lot with the clients. This is not always a luxury we get with our house package clients as we ship our pre-fabricated house packages world-wide. This helped us confirm topography during the design process.
As the design was finalized, and building permits submitted, Tamlin began the prefabrication of the house components that were eventually shipped by ferry to the job site. An excellent local builder and his site crew worked with Tamlin to construct the prefabricated house package. The inclusion of the many timber elements really makes this a friendly, cozy and contemporary home with a very functional living space for the owners and their family.
