This spectacular 5,000 square foot custom hybrid timber frame house package was shipped in the summer of 2022, from Vancouver, Canada to California, USA. Tamlin worked closely with the homeowner and architect to customize the timber frame components which were precut in Tamlin’s factory. At the “shop drawing” stage of plans, Tamlin reworked the construction drawings, so that precise measurements and cutting details for timber components could be drawn out, after complete structural engineering had been completed.
Douglas Fir beams were hand picked and our timber frame craftsmen meticulously carved each wood corbel and custom rafter tail for this project. All timber pieces were hand sanded, test fit, and predrilled to ensure ease of installation on site. Tamlin’s use of Free of Heart Centre (FOHC) Douglas Fir timbers has the benefit of having much less checking and splitting of the timbers. The tight grain of the “appearance grade” timbers also helps keep the timbers straight.
The highlight of this custom home is definitely the custom timber frame components, but Tamlin also shipped prefabricated walls, doors, windows, and all the structural components for the home.
