The Scandi Modern Series
What began as a single architectural sketch evolved into three fully realized prefab home designs, each engineered for Tamlin’s panelized building system.
At Tamlin International Homes, every project begins with an architectural idea but it is realized through a fully integrated design and prefabrication system.
We are introducing the Scandi Modern Series, a collection of three fully developed home designs, each engineered to be delivered as a Tamlin prefabricated home package. What began as a single designer’s sketch evolved into three distinct interpretations, each exploring a different way to live within the same architectural language.
Each design is developed to the level required for prefabricated construction and can be adapted to suit site conditions, lifestyle needs, and regional requirements.
The vision:
Modernism Meets the Landscape
The Scandinavian aesthetic, often recognized by dark exteriors, warm wood accents, and expansive glazing, is more than a visual direction. It reflects a way of living that is closely connected to the surrounding environment.
This design approach is well suited to homes across the Pacific Northwest and beyond, with a focus on:
- Natural light through high performance windows and large sliding doors
- Material contrast between dark cladding and natural wood
- Indoor outdoor flow with decks that extend the living space
Beyond aesthetics, this approach supports efficient prefabrication, strong energy performance, and site responsive design.
Three Design Packages
What began as a single architectural concept has evolved into three fully realized home designs, each engineered for Tamlin’s panelized building system.
Available as adaptable prefabricated packages, the series is designed to integrate with a range of sites and landscapes. The collection reflects a considered progression in modern living, from compact retreat to flexible split layout to full time home.
1. The Hytte
(703 s.f.)
pronounced “hit eh”
The Essential Cabin
Ideal for:
cabins, ADUs, simple living
The foundation of the series, this compact design focuses on simplicity and intention. It is well suited as a guest house, remote retreat, or small primary residence where design carries equal weight with efficiency. Every square foot is carefully considered, demonstrating how a smaller footprint can deliver meaningful architectural impact.
1. The Delt
(1,130s.f.)
pronounced “delt”
The Flexible Retreat
Ideal for:
guests, rentals, flexible living
Designed around a split layout, this home introduces a central breezeway that naturally separates living zones while maintaining a cohesive structure under one roofline. This flexible approach is well suited for a secondary guest suite, a private home office, or a dedicated studio space.
3. The Hjem
(1,327 s.f.)
pronounced “yem”
The Primary Home
Ideal for:
couples, small family living
The largest iteration expands the concept into a complete living environment. With two full bedrooms and expanded utility and storage areas, The Hjem is designed for everyday, year round living. It maintains the clarity of the original concept while providing the scale and functionality required for a permanent residence.
what is included
in a Tamlin Prefabricated Package
Each Scandi Modern design is developed as a complete building system, integrating architectural design with prefabricated components.
A typical Tamlin home package includes:
- Pre insulated wall panels
- Engineered roof systems and structural components
- Floor system design and layout
- Window and door packages
- Complete architectural and structural drawings
- Site specific engineering tailored to local building codes
This integrated approach ensures that the design intent is carried through accurately from concept to construction.
From Design to Delivered Home Package
While these designs began as a collaborative design exercise, they are built on the same proven panelized system used in every Tamlin home. Tamlin’s prefabricated home packages can be shipped anywhere in North America and internationally, including remote and hard to access locations.
By integrating design and manufacturing, Tamlin ensures that what is developed during the design phase is carried through with precision to the job site. This approach supports:
- Greater accuracy in construction
- More predictable timelines
- Improved energy performance
Because the system is considered from the beginning, the home you design is the home that gets built.
Scandinavian Cabin and Prefab Home Design Ideas
Scandinavian inspired homes are increasingly popular for small homes, ADUs, and modern cabin design. Their clean lines, efficient layouts, and connection to the outdoors make them ideal for both recreational and full time living.
These designs are part of a growing collection of ready-to-building prefab home packages developed for modern living.
When paired with prefabricated construction, these homes offer a more predictable and streamlined building process while maintaining architectural integrity.
