INTERESTED IN THIS BUILD?
This Discovery Ridge project in Saskatchewan reflects a refined approach to modern timber frame living, designed to respond directly to its lakeside setting. The architecture is anchored by a striking wall of double-height glazing that draws the eye upward while bringing natural light deep into the interior. Oriented toward the water, this feature establishes a continuous visual connection between the home and the surrounding prairie landscape.
The main living area is defined by a continuous sloped ceiling that rises toward the lake, creating volume and movement without a central peak. Exposed Douglas Fir timber structure introduces rhythm and warmth, balancing the scale of the space while reinforcing its architectural clarity. The result is an interior where the view remains the focal point, whether moving through the kitchen or gathering in the great room.
Material and structural decisions were made to respond to both the setting and the climate. The home is built on an insulated concrete form foundation, providing enhanced thermal performance, durability, and resistance to extreme temperature variation. This foundation system works in combination with the prefabricated structure above, creating a high-performance building envelope suited to prairie conditions.
The Efficiency of Prefabrication
This project highlights the advantages of Tamlin’s panelized building system in a prairie environment. Timber frame elements, wall panels, and structural components were manufactured in a controlled setting and delivered as a complete home package, allowing for efficient assembly on site.
By reducing construction time and improving coordination, this approach helps mitigate the impact of weather and labour constraints. Combined with the ICF foundation, the home reflects a balanced approach to performance, durability, and design flexibility, supporting a more predictable path from design through construction.
