Here are some commonly asked questions we get from our clients when they first start to inquire about their recreational or remote home project:
Can you design my home if I live far away?
Yes, we can. We have worked with clients all over the world. With todays technology, we can design plans and send them virtually, to almost anywhere. We also use online meeting places to speak in real time to our clients and walk them through their plans on our boardroom screens. (This is often done via SKYPE, or GOTOMEETING). We can actually allow our clients to take control of the mouse on our computer to show us their adjustments and changes to their plans. Tamlin also sends PDF drawings, sketches and other details such as reference photos , building photos, and 3D sketches to make communication seamless .
How long does it take to design my plans if I am out of the country or in a remote location?
As quickly as you can make decisions on your plans and get back to us with changes. Designing a home can take a couple of weeks to several months. We try to design in two stages to make it easy and fast. First conceptual or preliminary plans, and second final permit and construction plans. Often the most time is spent waiting for plan changes and decisions from clients. The quicker you are, the quicker we can be! For a typical 1000-1500 sq ft house, it may take 4-6 weeks for conceptual or preliminary plans, while larger, custom home plans of 2,000 – 5,000 sq ft can take 8-12 weeks depending on how quickly decisions are made. We also provide permit plans and work with you on other important plan details and documentation such as engineering at the final drawing stage.
Where has Tamlin designed and shipped homes to?
Tamlin has shipped all over North America, Canary Islands, Japan, and Hawaii to mention few, over the past 20+ years. We are experts in shipping custom house material packages anywhere. This includes islands, remote locations, barge or ferry only accessible places, and even aboriginal reserves in the arctic. Because we design, and manufacture, we make sure all the “little” things are taken care of. Yes, we even include galvanized nails for your western red cedar sidings ! We have our own experienced shipping department who are responsible and can safely and efficiently organize deliveries. Tamlin ships by flat deck truck, open top container, sealed steel containers, 53 foot vans that are loaded by truck and rail. We have even used helicopters to ship to our most remote locations, and that even includes our transportable piers for the foundation!
How long will it take to get my home shipped? And how do I pay?
We can often have your home package ready for shipping in roughly 8-12 weeks, depending on the time of year and the complexity and size of your order. Payment is made in prior to shipping with a deposit to place the order. (Please contact Tamlin for details in your area). Depending on your financial situation we can also work with your bank to help finance some phases of the project but this will depend on each building project. Tamlin also has the resources to help recommend lending institutions who may be more flexible for your needs.
