Our Michigan – Custom Gambier project is nearly complete!
As part of our design process we ensure that our house package will meet the zoning and building code requirements anywhere that our clients build. For this particular project, we had modified our popular Gambier model that normally has a shed roof to a 3/12 hip roof to meet the requirements of the local county.
One of our client’s key design elements was the entry to the home. The client wanted to see the view from the great room as soon as you were walking towards the front entrance, so we designed the entrance, with beautiful glulam beams and Douglas Fir posts, to incorporate 4 panel, full glass (“1-lite”) entry doors.
This combination of stunning elements gave them the grand entrance that they were looking for, with a clear view of the great room from the entry porch.
As with many of our past and current projects, this client wanted to take advantage of their views off the property. Some of our biggest changes to the original Gambier design included enlarging the view-side windows as much as possible to incorporate more natural light and maximize their view, while maintaining heating and energy efficiency.
One of the advantages of working with a custom home builder and designer like Tamlin, means that we work with our clients to incorporate any built-in features to our prefab home package. This client did not want an outdoor deck, due to the amount of insects in the area. Instead, we designed a screened-in porch with direct access through sliders in the great room. Plus, this screened porch was designed in a way that the client could install this beautiful fireplace!
