The award-winning Gambier prefabricated house package was the first in the Gambier series and was built on remote Gambier Island in British Columbia. Many people have told us that this does not look like a “prefab” home, which is a great compliment to our design, manufacturing and build team. Because of the difficulty getting to Gambier (barge and water taxi access only) even more of the home was prefabricated that we normally would, with things like the roof membrane being added to the SIPs (Structural Insulated Panel) roof panels in the factory.
The owners of this home have created a feeling of serenity outside as well as inside. From the moment you step off the tram that takes you from the dock to the house you start noticing the details starting with the welcome sign where the tram docks. Walk around a garden that is designed to be both beautiful and fit in with the natural surroundings. A few pops of colour in the form of outside furniture still fit in with the serene nature of the surroundings of the home and outbuildings. Two large modern wooden sculptures adorn the patio again fitting in with the environment and the West Coast Contemporary home’s exterior Western Red Cedar siding.
The interior of this home does not disappoint with just as much attention to detail paid as to the exterior. The gallery hallway was designed to house artwork and although the hallways is very bright the house was designed so none of the clearstory windows shine direct light onto the artwork. The music room was designed to hold a full-sized grand piano with plenty of room for other instruments and shelving. Creating the music room, the way we did enabled us to design a covered protected deck just outside the master bedroom so no matter what the weather is, you can sit and enjoy the scenery. The custom fireplace and spectacular light fixture are focal points of the great room and is a perfect spot for entertaining.
After 10 years in this home our clients have sold it and Tamlin has the pleasure of working with them on their new home. We are very excited to see how the new home turns out as we are sure the attention to detail in both the interior and exterior finishing/decorating will be just as spectacular as this home.
