Happy New Year! We hope that you and your family had a pleasant holiday and are well rested to begin 2013!! While Tamlin is a full general contractor locally in the Vancouver area, the company also supports local builders and architects to help them integrate timber frame and post & beam elements into their existing or planned homes. One of these projects at the end last year included designing, manufacturing and installing a number of custom Douglas Fir timber frame trusses for a project in Surrey, B.C. The builder, Ron Peters, knew that Tamlin Homes was the perfect match for his custom home in the South Surrey’s Crescent Park area. Even though the timber frame elements in the “Pub Room” were not part of the original plan, Tamlin was able to successfully design and integrate exquisite Douglas Fir timber trusses which enhanced the architect’s and client’s vision – and became the main focal point of the house!
Even though construction was already to the drywall stage, Tamlin quickly moved ahead on the project. We provided three of our staff – Chris Lynn, Greg Fairbank & Simon de Jong to carry in the trusses piece by piece and professionally install them within the home. Some beams that were hoisted up weighed over 650 lbs so this will give you an idea of the size of the job! Once the beams were in place and bolted to the ceiling with special metal brackets the “Pub Room” was ready for action! Not bad for a quick 5-day installation.
