Pender Island in the British Columbia Gulf Islands is a good island to build on because of ease of transporting goods due to regular ferry service and availability of trades people on the Island. Even with these advantages, a pre-fabricated house package still works for a build on any island. Our clients had chosen to be their own general contractor (owner-builder) so this type of package system was perfect for them.
After seeing Tamlin’s award winning Gambier home on our website, in the fall of 2017, these clients contacted us to see if we could do a smaller version. They loved the idea of the Gambier with all its windows because they wanted to take advantage of the ocean view from their property. As this will eventually be a retirement home the idea of one level living also appealed to them.
We designed a version of the Gambier that is just under 2300 square feet. We also designed a detached 1000 square foot garage/workshop. This was pre-fabricated as well and designed to match the house with the same contemporary look.
The garage was shipped first and is nearly finished and the house is at framing expected to be completed in September of this year.
Western Red Cedar barge and fascia, Douglas Fir soffits and timber entry porch compliment the cement board, board and batten siding and cement board shingle accent around the front door. The garage exterior matches the house.
