One of our favourite things to do is customize our standard prefabricated house packages for a client. Our Design and Sales teams really enjoy the creative process of making a dream home a reality. This three bedroom, two bathroom 1680 square foot home is currently being built on a beautiful, wooded, 5-acre lot in Nevada County, California.
These clients loved our Discovery Ridge home, but wanted something a little more rustic so we went with all re-sawn timbers and glulams for all the posts and beams to get the look they were after. The client decided to continue that look with the same re-sawn timber posts and beams framing the interior of the view windows in the great room. As this is a look that we have not done before, we are really looking forward to seeing the finished product.
The main bedroom in this house has 2 walk-in closets and the ensuite bathroom has a very large walk-in shower. It also has sliding glass doors onto one of the two covered patios. A great place to enjoy your morning coffee before getting ready for the day. These clients chose to remove the closets from both the second and third bedrooms to give them more space to make one into a hobby room and one into an office.
Because most of our Discovery Ridge homes are built on slab on grade or crawl space foundations we need to make sure our clients have storage, especially in the kitchen. This home is no different, with a huge walk in pantry that has enough room for lots of shelving and even a full size chest freezer.
Some clients have unique challenges that we have to work with. In this case there is a high fire rating, which is something that we are used to working with. We have to check with the local building code to make sure all the siding, doors and windows meet that fire rating and adjust our materials package if necessary. The second issue these clients had is far less common, woodpeckers. All the siding, trim and soffits for this home were cement board because of the fire rating so already woodpecker proof, but all the wood products (porch posts and beams, exterior doors) were shipped with no stain or priming so the client could stain on site with woodpecker repellent mixed into the stain.
